Softphones (mobile & desktop app)

A softphone is the phone app on a mobile or computer. This choice affects seats, numbering and how we design call flow.

How many people need a softphone?

Where will they use it?

If someone has a desk phone and a softphone…

This is the most important softphone question—there is no wrong answer; it depends how you work.

Same number as the desk phone (virtual extension) One extension rings desk and app together (or in order you choose). Best when the person is one person with two devices—office and on the road. Usually one hosted seat per person. Completely separate extension The softphone is its own user/extension (and often its own DID if needed). Best for field-only staff, shared desks, or when the app must not share the desk identity. Usually an extra hosted seat per softphone user. Mixed — some twin, some separate e.g. managers twin desk + app; warehouse staff softphone-only. Describe the split in the notes. No softphones Desk phones (and DECT) only for now. You can add apps later.

Tip: Virtual twin keeps one identity (Jane is always ext 104). Separate extensions suit people who never share a desk identity—or roles that must be dialled independently.

Numbers, installation and cutover

These drive monthly services and setup. Hard-to-reach sites are never guessed on this quote.
